Ohio, and what to do here!

December 31, 2017

If you like outdoor diversity and variety, then Ohio is the place for you! From the flat plains of Northwestern Ohio, to the hills, cliffs and caves of Southern Ohio, from sports and history of Northeastern Ohio to the Arts and excitement of Southwestern Ohio, you will find just about anything you need!

Winter offers many breath-taking hiking opportunities and incredible scenery, but let's face it, we all look forward to warmer weather, and especially Summer in Ohio! So with all that Ohio has to offer, you can begin to plan your destinations for this Summer.

Between each destination, you will be able to find campgrounds! There are State (ODNR) Parks and Private Parks. The amenities vary from each location, but if you have a huge RV and love "glamping" (glamour-camping) or if you enjoy primitive camping in a tent or just a sleeping bag under the stars, you will LOVE Ohio!

You may be reading this in less than perfect outdoor weather  (because otherwise you'd be outside!) so how can you prepare for the beautiful weather when it arrives? Visit your local sporting goods store, Marina, or RV Dealer and see what is available for YOUR style of outdoor activities.

And of course, if it is between Jan 5-14, you could visit the Ohio RV and Boat Show at the Ohio Expo Center to see everything in one place, including campgrounds and parks who have set up information areas to help you find what's best for you and your family!

So Ohio has it all, but what next? How do you know what you might like? How do you prepare?  Well the answer is get out there and find out! If you have never journeyed down a forgotten stream in a kayak or canoe, try it! If you have not explored much of Ohio's natural beauty, go experience it! Not only will you find new places and see new things, but you may discover new people with similar likes, or even better yet, you may discover yourself!

I found this article about what to do in Ohio during the Summer months on www.Ohio.org and it was written so well that I had to share it! I have included a direct link to this article at the bottom of this post.

Summer in Ohio is open season on travel and fun regardless of your interests. Parks, natural areas and preserves offer miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, boating, paddling, fishing and more.

Urban areas bloom with botanical gardens, downtown kayak runs, climbing walls and walking tours to enjoy architecture and public art. Restaurant, bistro and coffee shop patios become open-air entertainment venues where friends and families can enjoy creative, fresh and locally sourced foods and drinks.

Ohio zoos are known for their conservation efforts and breeding programs which means new babies to watch as they play and grow. Just as many of the zoo animals enjoy a refreshing dip in the water when it gets warm, Ohio has plenty of outdoor water parks that will thrill kids just as much as the polar bears.

For a serious cool off, head to one of our amazing theme parks for a ride that will give you a new hairstyle and perhaps show off your coaster face.

If you have smaller members of your family, don’t worry. Both Cedar Point and Kings Island have stellar children’s areas with pint-sized rides, coasters and Snoopy characters. If coasters aren’t your thing, perhaps zip-lining through the forest canopy will have a similar adrenaline-packed, cooling effect on you. There is a kids’ version for that too!

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy Lake Erie’s Islands where the primary modes of transportation are golf carts and bicycles. Leave some time for a perch or walleye sandwich, parasailing, kayaking around the islands or perhaps some diving of the many underwater shipwrecks found close to shore.

To slow things down and relax to the clip-clop of horse and buggies, head to one of Ohio’s Amish areas. Whether you sample the goods from cheese houses, attend an Amish auction or shop for gorgeous quilts or hardwood furniture, embracing the simple life for even a day or two has a calming, introspective effect on most people. We are telling you now -- save room for dessert!
